90-Day Teacher Development Programme for the Secondary School Teachers
A warm welcome to RIESI, Bangalore. This handout carries some important information about this course. Please read it carefully.
The main objectives of this programme are:
- to build confidence and help the trainees become competent users of English
- to equip the trainees with the language learning skills and help them deliver the content effectively.
- to ensure the application of language learning skills in real-life situations.
- to enable the participants to acquire trainer development competency in ELT (with a focus on training skills and techniques).
- to give an understanding of the way English language functions.
This teacher development programme is scheduled for three months at RIESI, Bangalore.
The curriculum includes Practice Teaching, lectures, debates, workshops, presentations and computer lab sessions besides regular sessions on all four language learning skills LSRW, Methodology, Grammar and Literature. There will be follow up tasks & assignments. The assignments must be submitted on time, as the process of evaluation is continuous and comprehensive. You will be writing a pre-test at the beginning and a post test at the end of the course.
There are regular classes from 09.45 a.m to 5.00 p.m with a lunch break of an hour from 1 – 2 p.m. From 11.00 - 11.10 and 3.00 – 3.10 is the tea break. The institute does not function on second and fourth Saturdays and other government holidays reflected in the Karnataka State calendar. However, the Institute may function on any of these days if need be.
Since the course also aims at developing the communication skills of the trainees, it is advisable to use English during your stay in the campus ,may it be with your peer group or the members of the faculty.
Hope you will make the maximum out of this opportunity. Your eagerness to learn commitment to work and active participation in all the classroom activities will help you benefit the most from the course and you return to your schools as full fledged facilitators / teachers.
Hope you enjoy your stay here. Wish you a happy and a useful stay.
