SECONDARY LEVEL TEACHER/ TRAINER TRAINING PROGRAMME
Welcome to RIESI, Bangalore. The brochure shall speak more about RIESI. Spend some time in your room to skim and scan the brochure.
The main objectives of this programme are:
- developing the competencies required to become a better classroom teacher.
- enabling the participant to become a good teacher educator.
- making the participants think more deeply about their own teaching and training practices and roles and responsibilities in an English classroom.
- sharpening the language learning skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing
This, originally a 4 month residential programme, has been modified in such way that the participants need to stay at RIESI only for 3 months. The reduced course contents are to be covered through the distance mode.
During this training, participants will be involved in a lot of communicative activities that will enhance their own competence in different areas like grammar, phonetics, reading, writing and methodology. There will be lectures, guest lectures and discussion sessions as well as tutorials where the faculty will meet participants in small groups.
The course curriculum includes Teaching Practice, Lecturettes, Debates, Presentations, Language Lab and Computer sessions. There will be assignments, tasks and tests. The Method of continuous and comprehensive evaluation is followed.
The regular working hours are from10.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Second Saturdays, fourth Saturdays, Sundays and other holidays noted in the Karnataka state calendar will be holidays for the institute.
The participants are advised to use only English for communicating with their peers and members of the faculty within the campus.
The participants are requested to participate in all classroom activities to derive maximum benefit out of the course.

The clerical staff, computer personnel, typists, roneo operator, electrician, drivers, attenders, peons, watchmen, gardeners, cooks and other class IV employees together work as a team for the smooth conduct of the course. Please cooperate with them.

- Be back in the campus before dark

- Don’t ever be late to class
- Don’t apply for leave on working days
- Don’t spoil books and magazines in the library
- Don’t take newspapers from the library to your rooms
- Don’t stay away from the campus
- Don’t waste time in unnecessary gossip
- Don’t speak in your mother tongue even to your friends from your state
- Don’t loiter in the corridor
- Don’t linger near the telephone and disturb the speaker

Instructions to the inmates of the RIESI
Please read the instructions and follow them scrupulously.
- Please note that Self-service is practised in this canteen.
- Please wash your plates and tumblers after tea, breakfast, lunch and supper
- Place the washed plates in the vessel stand in the shelf adjacent to the wash basin.
- If you have any health problem and special diet is required, inform the Deputy Warden in advance.
- Do not get into any argument with the cook / kitchen staff
- Grievances if any with regard to the mess should be conveyed to the Deputy Warden / Administrative Officer.
- Maintain cleanliness in the canteen and the hostel rooms.
- Kindly indent and record the additional food supply for guests or visitors well in advance along with prescribed payment to the Deputy Warden.
- Food should not be carried to the rooms.
- Allowing guests to stay and to have meal at the canteen without prior permission from the Deputy Warden / Administrative Officer will be viewed seriously.
- Special items like special baths / sweets / pooris for lunch / supper are served to make your meal delicious and therefore will be served once only.
- Limit your Tea / Coffee to 150 ml. Leave your friend’s Tea / Coffee in the Kettle / Flask. Limit your biscuits to two.
- 5.30 p.m. Tea – Limit your tea to half a cup
- Avoid entering the kitchen to the possible extent
- EAT YOUR SHARE OF THE MEAL. LET YOUR FRIENDS HAVE THEIR SHARE
- DO NOT WASTE ANY FOOD STUFF.
- Please speak in English in the Canteen
